Cloth Diapering Mommy

I wanted to cloth diaper my baby as soon as I found out I was pregnant and the moment he popped out I had him in a prefold with a cloth diaper cover. My experience with cloth diapering so far has been amazing! I had purchased my diapering kits before my son was born. I had purchased myself 35 prefolds and 12 diaper covers along with my 23 pocket diapers, so far so good. I've had very few challenges and cloth diapering was the best choice and is cost effective! The initial set up for cloth diapering is expensive but in the long run it is well worth it. Why should you go cloth diaper? Its great for the baby and its natural! It's healthy, it's wonderful and believe me it is fun! You will become addicted. They are just so damn cute!

My Initial reactions towards cloth diapering was all over the place. I practiced on a bear before my son was born with the prefolds. I researched the best folds for Breastfed babies and what would contain their massive explosive boobs. There were so many to try, Jelly role, Kite, newspaper, envelope and so many more but I went with Jellyroll and Bikini. I started off with Jelly roll but as he grew I added the bikini roll. I was old fashioned and used Pins instead of snappis. Those buggers are expensive! Regretfully there were a few times I had stabbed my son with the pin and traumatized the both of us.
The prefolds worked well until he grew out of the folding stage and so I set them aside and began to use the Alva Pocket all in ones. He was around 3 months before he could fit in the One size diaper. It worked great and he was the cutest little shit I have ever seen. During the first few months of Cloth diapering with Pockets I was very very careful with how I washed them. They held up pretty well and washed well with TIDE until my son developed an allergic reaction to the detergent so we switched to Sun and Clear. We encountered a few problems such as YEAST and Diaper BURNS (Ammonia burn) but was able to overcome that. I will be talking more about those things in another Post.))

My first Reaction to my son being in the flesh screaming and wiggling to be changed was quite an experience. As he sat there looking up at me and screaming I had a prefold in one hand and a pin in the other. I took a deep breath and began to work. My first fold on my son WAS PERFECT but it nearly took me five minutes to complete. I slapped on the Cover and before I could snap the last snap, he peed straight through. I sighed, cried a little and attempted again, this time a little more unsuccessful than the last. We were still in the hospital and here I was sitting up after popping his large cranium out, with 3rd degree tear and stitch trying to change him. Looking back I laugh because I was crying while changing him. I was overcome by so many emotions and thoughts

I don't think I can do this
I am a terrible mom
What am I doing wrong
I suck at this thing, you know? Being a mom
Oh god I love you!
OH please don't pe- Oh its warm....
Oh lord have mercy, wait ha that tickles OH NO THAT HURTS UNLATCH UNLATCH
ABORT MISSION abort !

but despite the trials and obstacles, I was able to successfully maintain the cloth diapering life! You can to and we are all here to help.
